Periodontal (gum) disease is a bacterially-induced chronic infection and inflammatory disease that does not resolve by itself. Unchecked, inflammation and infection contribute to heart attacks, strokes, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases.

Yes, scientific studies indicate there is a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease. It has been shown that improving poor oral health can actually improve your overall health. Dentists and cardiologists have long known that neglecting your teeth can lead to more than just a toothache. In fact, in recent studies in both the American Journal of Cardiology and the American Journal of Periodontology, patients who regularly saw a dentist were one third less likely to suffer a heart attack.

New York University dental researchers found the first long-term evidence that periodontal disease could increase the risk of cognitive dysfunction associated with Alzheimer's disease in healthy individuals as well as those already impaired. The NYU study offers fresh evidence that gum inflammation can contribute to brain inflammation, neurodegeneration and Alzheimer's disease.

Many over-the-counter adhesives used to hold dentures and partials in place contain high levels of zinc. Published studies have shown that long-term use of these zinc-containing adhesives may lead to zinc toxicity. This can cause generalized neurologic problems including numbness, tingling, muscle weakness, slurred speech, poor balance, and blood problems such as anemia.

Restorations fixed to dental implants are not removable. There is nothing to pull out or take out to clean, avoiding the need for denture adhesives.

Peace of mind is priceless. Your new smile will be too.

The sad truth about missing teeth. When natural teeth are severely compromised or missing, and tooth roots are lost, there is nothing left to stimulate any bone growth in the jawbone. The body senses that the jawbone is no longer necessary and begins to dissolve bone away.

Depending on the number of missing teeth, facial collapse can easily occur. The more missing teeth, the quicker and more severe the bone loss. For those missing all their natural teeth, bone loss can become so severe after a few years that it often becomes difficult to wear removable devices such as partials and dentures because there is little bone left to support them. This results in the lips folding in, and the lower face shriveling up (witches chin) with deep contours (marionette lines) showing a much older looking person.

TeethToday is experienced in dental implant tooth replacement options. Implants are a tooth replacement option that involves placing a new "root" into the bone of your jaw. Once this titanium "root" has infused with your bone it can be used to support a crown, bridge, or denture. These implants can also be used to replace partials and other forms of dentures.

Implants are now the standard for replacing older dentistry and missing teeth because they look and feel like your natural teeth and have a higher success rate than all other forms of tooth replacement. The initial cost is higher for an implant over other forms of tooth replacement, but the long term benefits easily outweigh the slight additional cost.

Restored self-esteem and renewed self-confidence. Our patients who now enjoy the benefits of their new implant supported replacement teeth talk openly about their restored self-esteem and self-confidence as a result of a younger appearance, ability to eat the foods they want, increased comfort, and improved overall health.

Immediate results. With TeethToday, failing teeth can be immediately replaced with new implants and restorations in one procedure, the same day. This streamlines treatment, saving time, money and anxiety while improving the quality of the final results. TeethToday offers dramatic improvement in chewing ability, security and overall comfort.

Improved appearance. Since implants preserve bone, preventing deterioration of the facial structures, appearance is improved. When all the natural teeth are severely compromised or missing, there is nothing left in the jawbone to stimulate bone growth, the body senses that the jawbone is no longer necessary and begins to dissolve it away. This results in facial collapse.

After about ten years, it often becomes difficult to wear a denture because there is little bone left to support it. This results in the lips folding in, and the lower face shriveling up (witches chin) with wrinkles around the mouth (marionette lines) showing a much older looking person. With dental implants, the appearance of these wrinkles caused by posterior bite collapse, or complete facial structure collapse is virtually eliminated.

Remove the embarrassment factor. Implant supported replacement teeth never have to come out, not for daily cleaning, not for home care hygiene maintenance (brushing and flossing), nor even during a hospital visit or other medical exam. They are permanent. Just like your new smile.

The mouth is restored as closely as possible to its natural state. By replacing the entire tooth, including the root, it is possible to replicate the function of natural teeth, with a strong, stable foundation that allows comfortable biting and chewing. In addition, nothing in the mouth looks or feels artificial. Dental implants are the closest thing we have to our natural teeth.

Your smile is improved when replacement teeth look more like natural teeth. Even when only one tooth is missing, long term aesthetics are usually much better with an implant supported replacement tooth than with a traditional tooth supported bridge. This is particularly important in the front of your mouth, where preventing a visible bone defect is critical for natural appearance. learn more

Healthy adjacent teeth are not destroyed to replace missing teeth. Tooth replacement with traditional tooth-supported bridges requires grinding down the teeth adjacent to the missing tooth/teeth, so that the bridge can be cemented onto them and into place. This tooth structure can never be replaced and the long-term health of these “prepared” teeth is compromised. Partial dentures have clasps that hook onto adjacent teeth, putting pressure on the adjacent teeth as the partial rocks back and forth. Eventually these teeth can loosen and fail as a result of this unnatural pressure. Replacing missing teeth with implant supported crowns/bridges does not involve the adjacent natural teeth, so they are not compromised, damaged or destroyed.

Overall quality of life is enhanced with replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth. With implant supported replacement teeth, the appearance of the smile is more natural and the teeth function more like natural teeth. The result is increased comfort and confidence when smiling, speaking, and eating. If dentures and partials are replaced with implant supported teeth, the overall enhancement in quality of life is even more significant, with an ability to eat all types of foods, elimination of messy adhesives, and improved speech, comfort and appearance.

If removable dentures and partials are replaced with implant supported fixed bridges, the overall enhancement in quality of life is even more significant.

  • Your eating habits will improve
  • Messy and potentially toxic adhesives used to hold dentures in place are eliminated
  • Unsightly destructive metal clasps common with partial dentures, which tend to damage adjacent teeth and gums are now non-existent.

Failing teeth can cause other health issues. It is well documented that periodontal disease is a bacterially induced chronic infection and inflammatory disease that does not resolve by itself. Unchecked, inflammation and infection contributes to heart attacks, strokes, Alzheimer’s disease, diabetes and other chronic diseases. Dentists and cardiologists have long known that neglecting your teeth can lead to more than just a toothache. Scientific studies indicate there is a link between periodontal disease and cardiovascular disease. It has been shown that improving poor oral health can actually improve your overall health.

Convenient oral hygiene. Caring for an implant supported crown is the same as caring for natural teeth, however it is one of the most frequently overlooked ingredients in implant success. It is recommended that you visit your dentist or the TeethToday Center hygienist for maintenance and check-ups at regular intervals. These periodic visits will help keep your replacement teeth healthy for many years to come. minimize

CLINICAL PROCEDURES

Note: The surgical and restorative procedures will vary slightly depending on the treatment options (periodontal treatment or implant dentistry), and the number of teeth affected.

Complimentary Consultation. After your initial phone call, the next step is a consultation with one of our patient treatment coordinators and a member of our clinical staff.

We will determine your needs, assess your oral health, review your personal situation, discuss your medical history, and introduce treatment options based on your case. We will also review financing and procedural timing. This consultation may also include digital imaging and/or other technology to help us give a complete synopsis of your case. Bring any x-rays or other information supplied by your general dentist, as this will help expedite your visit. If you don’t have a general dentist, that’s OK. We offer complete restorative procedures too. This appointment may take 30 minutes to one hour, depending on the case itself. Remember, it’s complimentary. minimize Dental Examination. Once your procedure is scheduled, your doctor will be evaluating the area(s) of your mouth where teeth are missing, including the amount of bone available to support the placement of implants, as well as the quality and density of the bone.

This involves a 3D CT scan, and may include taking impressions for models of your teeth so that your doctor can develop the ideal treatment plan for your specific condition.

If you are missing all of your teeth, you may be scheduled for a consultation with a team of doctors. Your doctor will also be evaluating whether additional procedures may be needed to obtain the desired functional and esthetic result. If you have already lost a significant amount of bone, your doctor will evaluate the possibility of procedures to add (graft) bone, or create new bone. This appointment may take one hour or so. minimize The TeethToday procedure can be used for the replacement of one tooth, a few teeth, or a full set of teeth. The replacement teeth are usually placed immediately following implant placement - all in one appointment. You will never leave our office without teeth.

TeethToday® Implant Placement Procedure Patients are made comfortable with recommended sedation options. If necessary, tooth extractions will be performed at this point just prior to implant placement. Dental implants are then placed in the bone using a gentle surgical technique.

With the TeethToday immediate loading procedure, a 3D CT scan is used with virtual planning software to plan the implant placement and the design of the replacement teeth, even before the procedure itself starts. This is done after the examination and allows for temporary replacement teeth to be ready for you the day of surgery.

In fact, you will leave our office that day with a beautiful set of temporary teeth, and in just one – two days be fitted with a provisional dental implant supported bridge designed to last up to 6 months – during the healing process. With these provisional teeth, you can begin to regain your old eating habits, immediately see a revitalized appearance, develop a renewed self-confidence, and get back your vibrant lifestyle.

Traditional Implant Placement Procedure. In few instances, it could be preferred to use a more traditional approach to implant placement. Again, once the patient is comfortable and any extractions are performed, dental implants are then placed in the bone using a gentle surgical technique.

With this more traditional implant placement, you can expect the implants to be left undisturbed for a period of several weeks while the surrounding bone and soft tissue heal. During this bone remodeling phase, the bone will grow and the tissue will shape around the implants to form a strong biological bond. You will have temporary replacement teeth so that you never have to be without teeth during treatment.

Restorative Procedure. Following the appropriate bone remodeling/healing period (either same day with TeethToday, or a few weeks / months later with a more traditional method), a small connector post called an abutment is attached to each implant. The permanent replacement teeth will eventually be attached to these abutments.

Fabrication of Replacement Teeth. Impressions will be taken of your teeth and the implant abutments; the appropriate shade for your replacement teeth will be selected and then our laboratory technician will fabricate your replacement teeth and the underlying structures that will be attached to the implants. This process can take one - two weeks depending on the number of missing teeth and the type of replacement teeth.

Maintenance and Follow-up. In a USA Today article, the question was asked “What do people notice first when they meet someone?” 47% answered their smile. Nearly half. It is important to protect you new smile with an effective oral hygiene program including normal brushing and flossing at least twice daily, and regular check-ups and cleanings as prescribed by your dentist.

All-on-4 Procedure. This unique implant dentistry procedure is very appealing to people who are missing all their natural teeth, have weak and broken teeth and/or are wearing dentures. After the initial consultation and 3D imagining and planning, patients who qualify for this procedure can replace either an upper or lower denture with just four implants and a full set of replacement teeth in one appointment. This is normally done without any bone grafting or other ancillary procedures.

The Value Of Experience
When complications arise, many dentists placing and/or restoring implants have little or no experience on how to handle any problems. Experience can be extremely important as demonstrated by a pilot for US Airways January 15, 2009, right after flight 1549 took off from La Guardia Airport in New York City.

After several minutes in flight, a flock of birds collided with the engines shutting them down. The pilot, Chesley Sullenberger, could not return to La Guardia Airport or fly to a nearby airport to land the plane. Instead, he safely landed the plane on the Hudson River, saving all 155 people aboard. When asked how he managed to do this, Mr. Sullenberger replied: "For 42 years, I had made small, regular deposits of education, training, and experience and the experience balance was sufficient that on January 15th, I could make a sudden, large withdrawl".1

Regrettably, many dentists placing implants today lack the education, training, and experience to make that "sudden withdrawal". They also may not know how to avoid complications to begin with. If a complication occurs, they don’t know what to do to immediately correct it.2

If it is too late and you already have dental complications, we can help. Complications we manage at the TeethToday Center include:

  • Infected implants
  • Bone loss around implants
  • Loose screws or bridges
  • Chronic pain
  • Poor esthetics
  • Generally poor results

Dental implant complications can follow implant placement just like any other surgical procedure. Many of these problems can be treated quickly and easily. Left unchecked they can cause dental implant failure or injury to teeth bone, gum, nerves or sinuses near the implants.

The key to minimizing dental implant complications is to avoid them in the first place. You can increase your chances of this by selecting an experienced dental surgical specialist, a properly trained restorative dentist, thorough diagnostic evaluation, careful pre-operative treatment planning and proper after-care and oral hygiene.

Our specialists at the TeethToday Dental Implant Center have placed thousands of implants. Our doctors represent some of the best in the field and have written the book on how to avoid and treat implant complications.

These complications may be caused by surgical errors affecting adjacent teeth, nerves or sinus and are often associated with the ability of the dentist. An experienced and skilled implant specialist is able to anticipate potential problems by examining X-rays or 3D digital images, assessing your health, oral tissues and treatment objectives; designing the proper implant plan and executing it successfully.

Some factors which could lead to complications may include:

  • Inferior case planning
  • Inadequate diagnostic imaging
  • Diseases and medications
  • Lack of clinical experience and training related to procedures such as sinus augmentation and bone grafting
  • Gum loss, discoloration or recession
  • Damage to adjacent tissue
  • Infection of the surrounding area
  • Inflammation around the dental implant
  • Poor implant position

Even patients with significant risk factors can be successfully treated without complications by experienced professionals. Conditions that increase risk, but can be managed include advanced bone loss; history of previous failures controlled diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, immune deficiency or smoking; and medications such as anticoagulants and bisphosphonates (bone builders).

There are horror stories circulating about things that can go wrong and have gone wrong with less trained, less experienced and less focused clinicians. Avoid becoming a statistic. Only trust your oral health to experienced trained professionals.

If you are suffering with complications caused by previous implant dentistry treatment or questioning if you are a candidate for implant treatment, please call the TeethToday Dental Implant Center immediately 800-616-7010. We can answer your questions, work to resolve your problem and get that smile back on your face quickly, predictably and efficiently.

This is the value of experience.

By age 50, the average American has lost 12 teeth (National Institute of Health statistic). People live with gaps, bridges, dentures, sunken faces, and an inability to chew food properly or to eat many of the foods they like. They can’t even smile without being ashamed. These problems compromise their quality of life on a daily basis.

What does immediate loading / immediate function mean?

Removable partial denture can cause damage to existing teeth and gums. The TeethToday Center is among a few Dental Implant Centers in the region offering Immediate Load / Immediate Function procedures for replacing missing teeth. With this time and cost savings procedure, a high resolution 3D CAT scan, is used with virtual planning software to plan and facilitate the design and fabrication of both the temporary and final replacement teeth. To save on treatment time, this procedure is completed after the initial consultation with the patient and before the scheduled implant placement itself.

TeethToday® is the name of this innovative dental procedure during which a patient is given new teeth supported by dental implants, with the entire procedure being completed in 1 or 2 office visits within a 24 hour time period. The procedure uses what is called the immediate load technique where the new provisional tooth and the implant post are placed during the same procedure or within one day. Patients will never leave our office without teeth.

Why consider immediate loading or TeethToday dental implants?
Removable dentures or other dental appliances are frequently uncomfortable, even painful, ill fitting and sometimes will just sit on a shelf at home. Removable appliances can cause bone loss (atrophy) and gum recession. These dental appliances are often difficult to keep clean which can result in a bacteria infested environment that can lead to infections, bad breath, more root canals and weaker teeth that may fracture and lead to subsequent tooth loss. Dental appliances often have an unnatural appearance too, which is why they are known as "false teeth."

Most people take dining in restaurants or kissing someone you love for granted. Individuals with dental appliances, such as removable dentures, know that intimate situations or social dining can be a frequent cause of embarrassment. In addition, these appliances may even make it difficult to speak clearly enough for you to be understood by your family, friends and business associates.

For denture wearers all these normal, everyday experiences are rarely discussed -- it is almost taboo or too awkward to approach these subjects with your family or friends. You just learn to live with the shame, indignity and humiliation of a mouth that has betrayed you. If this sounds like your life then now is your opportunity to take control of your mouth with the help of Dr. Ganeles, Dr. Norkin, and Dr. Zfaz and TeethToday.

Whether you have failing teeth, bad teeth, removable appliances, fixed bridges, old dental implants, or you need to replace a single-tooth, multiple teeth or even a full mouth of teeth TeethToday will make you feel like a whole person again. Your smile will make you look like the person you remember seeing in the mirror or the person you always wanted to see.

Believe it or not, TeethToday makes it possible for you to walk into our office with missing teeth and leave with a completely new set of beautiful teeth. In one day. Believe It!

Can I really walk out of the office with NEW teeth and actually go out and eat with them right away?

Yes. In both clinical research and in our dental practice we have successfully used our TeethToday procedure to provide patients aged 16 to 100+ with new teeth. The doctors at the TeethToday Dental Implant Center are some of the world leaders in using this revolutionary technology!

Our patients have shared with us their success stories of what walking out of our offices with permanent teeth has meant to them. Being able to eat their favorite foods again. You can carefully eat immediately and you can take a bite out of that delicious apple in a few weeks.

When a single tooth is missing, the two most common treatment options are the traditional tooth supported bridge (3-unit bridge) or an implant supported crown. When a traditional bridge is used to replace a missing tooth, normally the adjacent teeth are cut down into peg shapes, destroying natural dentition in order to fit the cemented bridge in place.

This method of tooth replacement can be functional for a period of time. However, the teeth supporting this type of bridge frequently develop decay, leading to root-canal treatment or periodontal bone loss. This often becomes more complicated to treat later. In addition, the bridge itself will decay and eventually fail. This failure will lead to several costly replacements over a lifetime.

On the other hand, there are many advantages to replacing a single missing tooth with an implant supported crown:

  • It looks, feels and functions like a natural tooth
  • It is much more esthetic long term
  • There is no need to grind down the adjacent natural teeth
  • The bone is preserved, preventing a visible bony defect
  • It is more hygienic (easier to clean) than a tooth supported bridge
  • It does not decay and you will never need a root canal

When more than one tooth is missing, there are three common treatment options:

  • A traditional tooth supported bridge
  • A removable partial denture
  • An implant supported bridge

In this situation the benefits of implant supported teeth are even more obvious.

A removable partial denture actually accelerates the bone resorption process in areas without teeth, resulting in more rapid bone atrophy (deterioration). In addition, the clasps which hold the partial denture in place put extreme pressure on the underlying gums and natural teeth they hook onto. This weakens the jawbone and loosens the teeth and often leads to additional tooth loss. Many patients with partial dentures state that they are unsightly, painful and that they rarely wear them.

The advantages of replacing multiple missing teeth with implant supported bridges include:

  • They look, feel and function like natural teeth
  • They are much more comfortable and stable than partial dentures
  • Natural biting and chewing capacity is restored
  • Adjacent natural teeth are not compromised (ground down into peg shapes or loosened)
  • Dental implants virtually stop the bone resorption process (deterioration)
  • The integrity of the facial structures are maintained (no sagging jaw line)

Implant dentistry is the optimal choice, and considered the “standard of care” for tooth replacement anytime failing teeth or missing teeth need to be replaced.

Removable dentures reduce chewing efficiency by at least 70%, because they tend to slip and slide around. Not only do implant supported bridges enable a patient to eat normally, but they also help preserve the jawbone.

When all the natural teeth are severely compromised or missing, and there are no tooth roots in the jawbone to stimulate any bone growth, the body senses that the jawbone is no longer necessary and begins to dissolve it away. This results in facial collapse. After about ten years, it often becomes difficult to wear a denture because there is little bone left to support it. This results in the lips folding in, and the lower face shriveling up (witches chin) with wrinkles around the mouth (marionette lines) showing a much older looking person.

In the past, people missing all of their teeth had two options: dentures or gums. The disadvantages of bare gums are obvious. The disadvantages of dentures are numerous, such as:

  • Dentures are uncomfortable and often painful
  • Denture wearers often fear/avoid intimate situations
  • Wearing dentures often undermines a person's self confidence (they have missing body parts and do not feel complete or natural)
  • They do not look natural, especially when eating
  • Dentures must be removed during most hospital visits and medical appointments – adding to further embarrassment
  • With missing teeth, bone continues to melt away, dentures become loose, and without the use of adhesives, dentures can and will fall out with normal day-to-day activities such as laughing, coughing, sneezing, or eating
  • Some denture adhesives contain zinc which can cause neurologic problems
  • People with dentures cannot eat certain foods, such as steak, corn on the cob, apples, and pretty much anything crunchy, just to name a few
  • People with dentures often have bad breath
  • Denture wearers have reduced taste sensation
  • People without teeth and supporting bone visibly age much faster

These problems can be solved with implant supported replacement teeth, which are stable (securely fastened to the implants) and maintain the integrity of the facial structures by preserving bone.

This prosthesis is used in special situations for patients who have enough bone in the anterior regions of the lower or upper jaws, but limited amount of bone in the posterior regions and are not candidates for extensive bone grafting.

Patients suffering with uncomfortable and painful dentures, and those patients living with unsightly partial bridges – causing even more damage to their remaining teeth and gum line – now have a clinically proven treatment option, using FDA approved materials and techniques for replacing missing or non-functional teeth.

If you are struggling with bad teeth, wear an unsightly partial or ill-fitting painful denture, you can now switch comfortably and conveniently to a fixed dental implant system that will improve your appearance, self-confidence and lifestyle.

Replacing failing teeth, missing teeth or dentures with a dental implant-supported bridge will change your life forever. Your new dental implants will act and feel like real teeth because they are supported by a similar root structure.

Replacing dentures with implant supported fixed teeth will change your life forever. They act and feel like real teeth because they are supported by a similar root structure.

The benefits of an implant supported bridge vs. a conventional denture are amazing and will change your life for the better.

  • An implant supported bridge re-establishes lost lip support and therefore minimizes the appearance of wrinkles, no more marionette lines
  • They preserve the remaining bone and maintain the integrity of the facial structure
  • They do away with the need for dangerous adhesives
  • They eliminate the pain caused by ill-fitting dentures
  • With increased stability, they help restore natural chewing capacity
  • They do not cover the roof of the mouth, allowing food to be enjoyed again

Self-confidence and a renewed quality of life could be just a day away.

No more restricted food choices

The biting force of implant supported bridges is 70% greater as compared with dentures, and dentures only replace the crown, or visible portion of the tooth. Whereas dental implants form the natural tooth root system needed to improve biting forces allowing for wider variety of foods leading to healthy diets, confident smiles and overall improved quality of life.

Renewed quality of life

Dental implants are used to attach a fixed bridge to the jaw. These implant retained bridges are a major improvement in fit and function over removable dentures, and our patients say the stability and comfort of their new replacement teeth are by far dramatically better than their old dentures. They say implants have changed their lives for the better --- forever.

Whether you have a partial or full denture, you can now switch to the new standard of care, a fixed dental implant system that will enhance your lifestyle, boost your confidence, and immediately improve your quality of life.
